What Is SEO

What is SEO – Explained in Plain English

How to optimize SEOThere seems to be a lot of confusion about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), not only by beginning Internet Marketers, but also among a great number of more experienced website builders.

During the research for my website FactsAboutInternetMarketing.com, I read many articles, posts and blogs I found on the Internet, and often times I walked away confused by the technical lingo. Let’s play a little Question and Answer game and, hopefully, make a lot of folks “unconfused”.

Q: What is SEO

  • A: It is simply a tool to make sure that search engines are finding your site, pages and posts contained within, and are able to analyze the quality of the contents thereof.

Q: I have to buy a”tool”?

  • A: No, definitely not. Virtually all website design systems have a built-in SEO. The most popular is WordPress which provides an All-In-One SEO

Q: Good. I don’t have to do nothing? How to optimize SEO

  • A: Wrong, you have a lot of things to do and I am simply going to list your jobs
  1. Research Keywords and common Keyword Phrases related to your niche
  2. Research the STRENGTH of your Keywords (average searches per month)
  3. Research how many competing websites for every one of your Keywords

Q: OK. And then I type them all in the KEYWORD FIELD?

  • A: Wrong again if you mean the Keyword Meta Field

Q: How come?

  • A: Because Google and the other search engines are changing their search algorithm to be able to provide better search results for their customers. To achieve that, they now analyze the content of webpages and posts to find out if there is high quality of information.

what is website content

Q: What is High Quality Content

  • A: You see, people search for many different reasons, but they all have ONE thing in common. They are looking for information and help. If they arrive at a website that can not provide what they are looking for, they just click off and go to another site. That’s why content is so very important.

Q: WOW! There is really so much to do. Should I hire help from….?

  • A: That depends if your business can afford it. There are many good SEO companies wanting your business, but they DO NOT come cheap. An SEO CAMPAIGN typically runs somewhere from 6 to 12 months and can cost you from a few hundred dollars to a thousand dollars or more per month. And you have to be aware of the scammers that are out to get your money without delivering the expected result!

Q: What about those “ALL-IN-ONE” packages advertised on TV late at night?

  • A: Most of those are just HYPE and without any real value for you. There are maybe a handful of legit programs that do offer some help. However, it will cost you money, sometimes in the hundreds of dollars, but at the end of the day the REAL WORK will have to be done by you.

Q: Oh My! What else can I do?

  • A: YOU CAN LEARN! If you are willing to learn everything you need to know, I know just the right place for you. And the good point is that you can do it from the comfort of your home. And the best point is, that you can start for free. That’s right. Join Wealthy Affiliate as a Starter Member and check out their legit program. No Credit Card required. Give it a try!

Here you have it. SEO in a NUT SHELL. But can it really be that simple? I am not sure myself at this point. However, I understand that the “Old Way” of SEO is a thing of the past. Google has made some major changes over the past year of moving people towards a different SEO approach.

We need to take a look at these changes to fully understand Google’s intentions and strategies.

(1) Secure Organic Searches

Since September of 2013 Google Analytics is not providing keyword data any longer. This data were showing you what words or phrase were used to direct visitors to your site.

Most affected by this are those that still practiced“Keyword Stuffing” and favors those who provide quality and helpful content on their websites

(2) Page Ranking

By Google definition, page ranking shows how many links your site has been pointed back to it. Google announces that there has been NO UPDATE to the Page Rank Meter since the end of 2012 or early 2013.

My take on this is “So What?”. Page Ranking still works but simply has not been updated. Understandably so, considering the fact that Google is trying to make website developers and SEO to focus more on high quality content.

(3) Google +

Launched in June, 2011, G+ got off to a slow start and clearly was in the shadow of Facebook and Twitter. Not the case any longer. G+ overtook Twitter some months ago and is cutting deeply into Facebook membership as a lot of people are leaving FB.

It seems that articles posted in G+ are getting a much higher ranking. All you have to do is a search “google plus usage” and you can clearly see the impact G+ articles have on the result.

I may sound like a broken record, but I must stress again that quality content submitted to G+ will get your website a higher ranking.

(4) The Hummingbird Update

Released in September 2013, Hummingbird is the latest update of Google’s search algorithm and an effort to understand conversational search queries. What will the impact of SEO be? Too early to tell, but I think that Hummingbird will make exact keyword matches less important

In Summary

SEO is changing and Search Algorithms are evolving. That simply means that “Old School” SEO experts need to relearn and adjust, and beginning website creators and Internet Marketing Entrepreneurs have to learn the new way.

Google is NOT hiding their intent to deliver the best product to their clients, the people and their searches. Read Google’s guidelines for content creation.

Content Is King. Write high quality content with good information to HELP your visitors. Write in plain English and naturally without stuffing your content with keywords.

Link exchange is nothing else except it is only placing the
other person’s weblog link on your page at proper place and
other person will also do same in support of you.

You are right. However, “back linking” in the old way is not advisable anymore due to the fact that SE’s and Google in particular, have gotten pretty smart in figuring that out and de-rank, for example, sites using excessive and paid for back links. I prefer 10 quality back links over 1,000 fake ones.
