Is Long Tail Pro a “Must Have” Keyword Research Tool?
Before getting into the Long Tail Pro review I need to raise the issue of KEYWORDS in general.
There is a great deal of talk going on in the Internet Marketing Business about the changes in search engine algorithm in general, and by Google, Bing/ Yahoo in particular. And there seems to be a lot of confusion about how these changes will affect the way we work with keywords.
But let’s face it. Things are continually changing, the technology changes, the way people are searching changes, the Internet changes and with it comes the need for us to change. Still one thing has not changed.
WE WANT OUR WEBSITE TO SHOW AMONG THE FIRST TEN SEARCH RESULTS ON PAGE ONE!
I could list about 10 to 15 criteria most of us think are very important to be able to out-rank at least ONE of these websites. Instead, I want you to look at what Mr. Chris Anderson wrote on wired.com in October of 2004! This is a very interesting and MUST READ article.
And just like that, the phrase “LONG TAIL” was born. Of course, Mr. Anderson did not write this article with internet searches and the importance of keywords on his mind. It was the year 2004, after all, and Google had not yet reached ONE BILLION searches per day (btw, there are over 6 billion searches per day now). But the phrase stuck in peoples mind and today we talk about LONG TAIL KEYWORDS.
Chris Anderson realized back then, that there is in fact MORE MONEY TO BE MADE by targeting the underlying groups of customers in an overall huge market as he very eloquently outlines in his example Amazon versus Barnes and Noble. He, inadvertently though, told his readers that there is “some way” to claim a share of the business, and this is what we now call “Niche Marketing“.
What Is A Long Tail Keyword
Alright, you have your “Niche Website Business Ideas” and you want to target the “How To Make Money Online” market. You can use a free keyword tool and do a quick search with this ROOT KEYWORD and find out that there are approximately 3 Million searches on average per month.
Using the most rudimentary method to see how many competitors are using this keyword, you need to go to the very last page of the search results and Google will display in the upper left corner the number of indexed websites. In this example, there are 389 competing websites with this exact match. Not just for your purpose, don’t you agree.
Now you need to target a smaller segment of this market. Again, using the simplest method is, what we call the “alphabet soup”. Take a look at the two screenshots below and you will see how you can use this technique for narrowing down the field. (Click on the images to enlarge)
You see what I mean with alphabet soup. You could expand this method by going trough the whole alphabet and see what they come up with. That works also on the “front end” by adding a letter IN FRONT but without a space, like “ahow to….”.
It works just fine, try it out yourself. This means you will get a lot of different keywords, but also additional niche ideas. This “drilling down” into a ROOT KEYWORD leads you to the LONG TAIL KEYWORD which will give you the chance to out-rank your competition.
But this manual process is very time consuming and awkward as you must write down the results on paper for “the real work to start”. And that takes me to the main issue of this post.
Long Tail Pro Review
Name: Long Tail Pro
Creator: Spencer Haws
Primary Use: Keyword Research
Being greeted by a website with a video only screen sets off a BIG SCAM ALERT in me. But what I noticed right away was that there is a PAUSE option. Then I checked the run-time and it’s just about 10 minutes. So I knew I will not have to sit through an hour being inundated by “get rich quick” and similar nonsense. And the third and most important thing I saw was the yellow 10 Day Free Trial.
The scam alert went away and I watched the video presentation and took advantage of the 10 day free trial, which led me to purchasing Long Tail Pro. I use LTP in a different way though and I will tell you how after my conclusion.
I am not attempting to describe the functions of Long Tail Pro in detail to you; Spencer Haws is way more qualified to do that when you watch the video yourself. But I will give you my honest opinion about LTP.
LTP is a very good keyword research tool with FILTER OPTIONS
- Number of words
- Average local searches
- Check for domain name availability
LTP Competitor Analysis
- Keyword Competitiveness (rated 0-100)
- Number of backlinks to the PAGE, not the domain
- Juice page links (the number of sites that pass “link juice” to that page)
- Page Authority
- Google page ranking
- The age of the site
- That is very clear and easy to understand. Just enter your URL and the Keyword and LTP show you the ranking in Google, Bing and Yahoo
PROS & CONS
LTP comes in 2 options
- Long Tail Pro Price: $97.00
- Long Tail Pro Platinum Price: $97.00 PLUS $17.00 per month
- LTP freezes up occasionally, un- and re-install necessary
Long Tail Pro is a very good product which delivers outstanding results. I wish Spencer Haws would drop the PER MONTH fee of $17.00 and include the Platinum Option in the LTP one-time price of $97.00. I highly recommend this product.
My name is John. I mentioned earlier that I use Long Tail Pro in a different way which fits my purposes better. My PRIMARY tool is Jaaxy which is in my opinion the best keyword research tool available. Jaaxy contains the same features as Long Tail Pro and then some more. It is an excellent tool for niche discovery and domain flipping.
However, I use Long Tail Pro Platinum as a supplementary tool for GOOGLE PAGE RANKING. Although Jaaxy also has a ranking functionality, LTP’s metric to determine the strength of my keywords COMPARED with only the TOP TEN ranked sites is outstanding. And what I like the most about it is that I can IMPORT my whole Jaaxy list of keywords (some times up to 5,000) into LTP, let it do the work while I use the time saved to work on content for my sites.
Why don’t you take look at Jaaxy right now, read the specs and other info you will find on their website. It wont take too much of your time and it’s free to look.
I would appreciate your feedback about Jaaxy and my LTP review. Just drop a comment in the box below and I will respond within 12 hours.e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
